Solar Energy Utilization in Agricultural Engineering: A Technical Guide for System Selection and Installation

Abdullahi Abba Mamman, Muhammad I M, EY Washara

Abstract

As the world shifts towards renewable energy, solar panels have become a progressively popular prime for homeowners and businesses looking to lessen their carbon footprint and energy expenses. Yet, with so countless selections available, it can be overwhelming to cross the process of buying solar panels. In this paper, we walked through the key factors to consider and provide step-by-step calculations to help govern energy savings. We reviewed the history of solar cell technology, solar cell of photovoltaic cell, working principle of solar cell, grid-tied solar system and off-grid solar system, hybrid solar system. We also provide a clear difference between Polycrystalline Silicon Solar Panel, Monocrystalline Silicon Solar Panel, Thin-Film Solar Panel. The paper also provides a clear distinction between Poly-crystalline or Single-crystalline Silicon, Silicon Modules versus Other Module Types. We explained Required Area required for installation. The paper also explained step-to-step on how to calculate to calculate your energy savings from: energy production, cost savings, payback period, return on investment (ROI). A recommendation was made at the end of the research.
