Abstract

This research aims to assess the impact of aqueous Moringa oleifera leaf extract on liver enzyme levels in albino rats. A total of twelve albino rats were utilized and split into three groups: a control group, a low-dose group (receiving 0.5 ml of moringa extract), and a high-dose group (receiving 1 mL of moringa extract). The extract was made by soaking dried moringa leaves in warm distilled water. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS version 27 on Windows 10, employing ANOVA and Tukey’s post hoc test. The mean serum levels for AST, ALT, ALP, albumin, total protein, and bilirubin were evaluated using a spectrophotometric method. The control group showed mean AST levels of 7.75±0.50 U/L, ALT levels of 8.25±0.5 U/L, and ALP levels of 39.08±1.21 U/L. The high-dose group had AST levels of 11.25±0.95 U/L, ALT levels of 10.50±0.50 U/L, and ALP levels of 43.49±0.35 U/L. The low-dose group recorded AST levels of 9.00±0.95 U/L, ALT levels of 9.50±0.58 U/L, and ALP levels of 40.64±0.46 U/L. Albumin was measured at 3.2775±0.15370, total protein at 3.2900±0.6164, and bilirubin levels at 3.4413±0.3750. The low-dose group (Group B) had albumin at 6.4750±0.17078, total protein at 6.4750±0.17078, and bilirubin at 0.2500±0.5774. The high-dose group (Group C) showed albumin at 3.4413±0.3750, total protein at 6.7750±0.09574, and bilirubin at 2.1750±2.10772. The F-value for ALP was 33.156 with a p-value of 0.001, indicating significance. The F-value for AST was 11.921 with a p-value of 0.003, showing a significant difference. The F-value for ALT was 16.636 with a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant difference. The results indicated that rats treated with high doses of moringa extract exhibited increased enzyme levels compared to the control group. AST and ALT levels showed statistically significant increases at higher doses, while ALP levels increased slightly but were not statistically significant. The F-value for albumin was
