Pro-Social Behaviour as a Predictor of Self-Evaluation among Undergraduate Students

Ekwo, Jude Chukwudi Douglas, John Ufuoma Barabara, Timiebi Chidinma

Abstract

The study investigated pro-social behaviour as a predictor of self-evaluation among undergraduate students. Six hundred and thirty-one (631) undergraduate students with a mean age of 21.07 and S.D. 2.208 were selected using multi-stage (cluster, simple random: by balloting and availability) sampling techniques as participants from Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu. Caprara et al. (2005) Prosocialness Scale and Judge et al. (2003) Core Self Evaluation Scale (CSES), a correlation design was adopted, thus, Pearson correlation coefficient with the aid of S.P.S.S version (23) package was applied as a statistic to analyse the data to test the hypothesis. Findings show that pro-social behaviour, St?=-.261 and t=-1.729 at p>.05, failed to predict self-evaluation, though a negative interaction was indicated. Hence, future researchers should investigate other variables that can bring about the occurrence of self-evaluation.
