Entrepreneurship Education in Secondary Schools for Sustainable Development in Small and Medium Enterprises Scale in Bauchi North Senatorial District

Abstract

This study examined entrepreneurship education in secondary schools for sustainable development in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Bauchi North Senatorial District. Specifically, the study assessed the adequacy of teaching resources available for entrepreneurship education, the effectiveness of hands-on learning in enhancing students' practical entrepreneurial skills. The study was guided by two research questions and two null hypotheses tested at a 0.05 level of significance. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study, conducted in Bauchi North Senatorial District. The study population comprised 20,676 senior secondary school students from 53 senior secondary schools, with a sample size of 377 respondents determined using Krejcie and Morgan's sample size determination table. A simple random sampling technique was employed to select the respondents. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire titled "Entrepreneurship Education in Secondary Schools for Sustainable Development in Small and Medium Enterprises Scale in Bauchi North Senatorial District Questionnaire (EESSSDSMESBNSDQ)." The instrument contained 12 items categorized into sections addressing the study variables. Face and content validation of the instrument was conducted by two experts in Business Education and one expert in Measurement and Evaluation. The reliability of the instrument was determined using the Cronbach Alpha method, yielding a coefficient of 0.89. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) to answer the research questions and inferential statistics (independent sample t-test) to test the null hypotheses at a 0.05 significance level. Findings revealed that teaching resources for entrepreneurship education were generally inadequate, hands-on learning was moderately effective in enhancing practical entrepreneurial skills.
