AI-Driven Workforce Reskilling and Organizational Performance of Insurance Companies in South-South Nigeria

Obibhunun, Lucky PhD, SamueL, Ogonda Victor PhD

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between AI-driven workforce reskilling and organisational performance among insurance companies in South-South Nigeria. A cross-sectional survey research design was adopted, with primary data collected through structured questionnaires. The study population comprised 20 selected insurance companies in South-South Nigeria, and a census sampling technique was employed. The respondents consisted of managers from the selected companies. AI-driven workforce reskilling served as the predictor variable, while organisational performance was measured using operational efficiency, service quality, and innovation performance. The instrument's validity was established through academic supervisors' assessments, while reliability was confirmed using Cronbach's alpha coefficients exceeding 0.70. The hypotheses were tested using Spearman's rank-order correlation at a 0.05 significance level. The findings revealed significant relationships between AI-driven workforce reskilling and all three dimensions of organisational performance. The study concluded that AI-driven workforce reskilling significantly predicts organisational performance among insurance companies in South- South Nigeria. The study recommended that insurance companies establish continuous AI reskilling programmes to equip employees with practical competencies in AI-enabled systems, data analytics, automation, and digital process management. Companies should also provide targeted training in AI applications for customer relationship management, claims processing, customer enquiries, and personalised service delivery. Furthermore, insurance companies should develop structured AI innovation and reskilling initiatives that encourage employees to explore emerging technologies and generate innovative ideas for insurance products, operational processes, and service delivery.
