Green Technology Investment and Sustainable Entrepreneurship Performance of Selected Manufacturing Firms in Calabar, Cross River State
Abstract
The achievement of sustainable entrepreneurship performance requires effective practice of green technology to enhancing and create sustainable opportunities for firms. This study therefore examined the effect of green technology adoption, green technology financing, and green information technology on the economic performance of selected manufacturing firms in Calabar. A resource-based view theory was adopted to explain how organizations can achieve and sustain competitive advantage through the possession of internal resources and capabilities. A sample size of 215 workers, a stratified random sampling design, and a structured questionnaire was used to facilitate data collection. Descriptive statistics and multicollinearity with the variance inflation factor were used to ascertain the accuracy of the data set. The hypotheses were tested with the use of simple linear regression analysis. Findings revealed that green technology adoption (Beta = 0.621, p<0.05), green technology financing (Beta = 0.582, p<0.05), and green information technology (Beta = 0.618, p< 0.05) significantly affect the economic performance of selected manufacturing firms in Calabar. The study concluded that green technology investment encourages manufacturing firms to develop new products, production processes, and business models, which supports entrepreneurial innovation. It was concluded that the management should prioritize modern green technologies to automate production processes, reduce material wastage, and improve the efficient use of resources, which increases output while reducing the resources required for production, thereby improving productivity. The management should commit to financing green technologies to provide firms with the capital required to undertake investments that may generate long-term financial benefits. The management should sustain green IT to facilitate the automation and digitalization of business and production processes, where real-time information can help managers monitor production, inventory, energy consumption, and resource utilization, leading to more efficient operations.
