Udomah, Utibeima Ukpono

Abstract

This study examined the effect of non-financial reward systems on employee performance at Champion Breweries PLC, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Specifically, it investigated the influence of employee recognition and career development opportunities on the quality of service delivery within the organization. The study was anchored on Self-Determination Theory and Equity Theory. A survey research design was adopted, with a sample size of 220 employees selected from a population of 512 using the Krejcie and Morgan sample size determination table. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire administered to respondents within the organization. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. Descriptive statistics, including frequency counts and percentages, were used to summarize respondents’ views, while simple linear regression analysis was employed to test the study hypotheses. The findings revealed that both employee recognition and career development opportunities have a statistically significant positive effect on service quality and overall employee performance at Champion Breweries PLC. This indicates that non-financial rewards play a critical role in enhancing employee effectiveness and organizational service delivery. The study concluded that employee recognition and career development opportunities are key determinants of employee performance and significantly improve service quality within the organization. Based on these findings, it was recommended that Champion Breweries PLC should implement a structured non-financial reward system that integrates consistent performance-based recognition with continuous career development initiatives. Such measures should include merit-based awards, public acknowledgment of achievements, regular training programmes, mentorship opportunities, skills enhancement initiatives, and clearly defined promotion pathways to sustain employee motivation and improve organizational performance Key Words: Non-Financial Reward Systems, Employee Performance, Champion Breweries Plc, Uyo,
