Abstract

This study investigated the influence of entrepreneurship education on career intentions of tertiary institutions students in Plateau State, Nigeria with focus on fashion design and soap making. Two research questions were asked to guide the study and two hypotheses were formulated in relation to the research questions in order to achieve the objectives of the study. The population of study comprised of a total of 16,202 students and a sample size of 1,620 which is ten percent of the total population of the students from the tertiary institutions studied. Stratified random sampling was employed to cater for different categories of students in the different tertiary institutions. A descriptive survey research design was used. A 4-point Likert Scale Questionnaire in which reliability index and average content validity index had been established to be 0.87 and 0.77 respectively was used for data collection. Data obtained was analyzed using mean and standard deviation, and inferential statistics using Chi-square (X2) to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The results indicated that entrepreneurship education has significant influenced (P≤ 0.05) on tertiary institutions students’ career intentions in both fashion designing and soap making in Plateau Sate, Nigeria. While the cumulative mean for fashion design was 3.075, that for soap making was 2.819 both of which are above the criterion mean of 2.500. The implications of the results of this study are that curriculum content and quality of entrepreneurship education taught in tertiary institutions in Plateau State provides the needed skills that are of significance in influencing the career intentions of the students in both fashion designing and soap making.
