Abstract

The study examined performance management practices and employee efficiency: A theoretical Review. Performance management is a pivotal unit of human capital management that facilitates the effective and efficient utilization of an organization’s valued resources. It is an ongoing process that is aimed at classifying and upgrading the performance of people or groups through alignment and re-alignment of the work processes of employees to match with the set strategic organizational goals. The hypothetical structure of this research was based on Goal setting theory. The theory is applicable in this study in the sense that employees discover their areas of improvement and ensure that productivity is enhanced in all areas within the organization. This study has established that performance management practices are important for employee efficiency in Niger Mills Ltd and Lafarge Africa Plc. The study recommended that management of organizations in Nigeria should ensure that target setting, pay-for-performance and coaching are integral part of their performance management practices and ensure they secure employees buy-in of their performance management practices.
