Teachers Professional Development for Effective Teaching and Learning in Higher Institutions
Abstract
This study investigated teachers’ professional development for effective teaching and learning in higher institutions in Cross River State. To achieve this aim, three specific objectives were raised and converted to three research questions. The study adopted ex-post facto design. The sample of the study consisted of three hundred and ninety teachers randomly selected from university of Calabar, federal college of education Obudu, and Cross River State University, Calabar. The instrument Teachers Professional Development for Effective Teaching and Learning in Higher Institution Questionnaire (TPDETLHIQ) was used for data collection. The method of data analysis was simple percentage. The findings of the study revealed that professional development programmes impact on teachers’ ability to adjust to class activities to meet students’ needs in the classroom. It was recommended that quality training programmes for teachers should be introduced at higher institution level as it has significant correlation with effective teaching and learning.
