ESG Auditing in Vietnam Amid the Transition from ISAE 3410 to ISSA 5000: Institutional Gaps and Orientations for Improving the Legal Framework
Abstract
The issuance by the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board of the International Standard on Sustainability Assurance 5000 (ISSA 5000) marks a fundamental shift in the framework for assuring environmental, social and governance information. Using a desk-research method comprising synthesis, analysis, comparison and evaluation, this paper contrasts ISSA 5000 with the International Standard on Assurance Engagements 3410 (ISAE 3410), thereby identifying Vietnam’s institutional gaps in ESG assurance and proposing orientations for improving the legal framework. The findings show that Vietnam has not yet domesticated a sustainability assurance standard; ESG assurance remains voluntary and fragmented across the standards applied. On this basis, the paper recommends a three-phase roadmap tied to specific stakeholder groups.
