Organizational Communication and Employees’ Performance in Tertiary Institutions in Bayelsa State

Obonin Oru Bashira

Abstract

Given the increased complexity of institutional administration and the increasing requirement for efficient information flow within organizations, this study investigated the relationship between organizational communication and employees' performance in tertiary institutions in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. The study especially examined the relationship between important aspects of corporate communication, such as information sharing, feedback, and communication channels, and important performance indicators of employees, such as productivity and high-quality service delivery. To give a thorough knowledge of these interactions, a descriptive study design was used. Using the Taro Yamane formula, a sample size of 310 respondents was selected from the study population, which consisted of academic personnel from particular postsecondary institutions. To guarantee sufficient representation, a mix of convenience, simple random, and purposeful sampling methods was used. Primary data were collected through structured questionnaires, while secondary data were sourced from relevant literature. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, including mean and standard deviation, with the aid of the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences . The findings revealed that effective organizational communication has a significant positive influence on employees’ performance. It established that organizations with robust communication systems are more likely to achieve higher levels of employee productivity and deliver quality services. The study concludes that organizational communication is a vital strategic tool for enhancing institutional effectiveness. It recommends that management of tertiary institutions should prioritize the development of structured communication systems, encourage open and continuous feedback, and invest in modern communication technologies to improve employees’ performance and sustain quality service delivery.
