Impact of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Teaching and Learning of Economics in Secondary Schools in Owerri Municipal Council, Imo State

Abstract

This paper examined the impact of Information and Communication Technology in teaching and learning of economics in secondary schools in Owerri Municipal Council of Imo State. Three research questions were formulated with purpose of the study. The population of the study was three thousand, seven hundred and fifteen (3715) public secondary schools in Owerri Municipal Council of Imo State. The sample size was two hundred and thirty-five (235) respondents, and simple random sampling technique was used to select the sample size. Three (3) research questions were constructed and twelve (12) items were developed for data collection. The data were presented on tables and analyzed using mean method. The design of the study was the descriptive survey design. The study made the following findings among others: ICT support teaching and learning in economics in secondary schools but ICT is not readily available. Based on these findings, the study recommends that; ICTs should be available to secondary schools in Owerri Municipal Council of Imo State through adequate fund provision for ICT facilities. Secondly, government should embark on tech-skill training of teachers and school administrators for them to meet current global technology. Chapter One
