Inventory Management Practice and Improved Productivity in the Food Processing Industry in Port Harcourt

Abstract

This study looked at the connection between improved productivity and inventory control techniques in Port Harcourt's food processing sector. The study involved two food processing companies, Crown Flour-Mill and Dufil Nig. Ltd., the manufacturer of Indomie. As part of the survey study design, questionnaires were used to gather a sample of fifty-three (53) manufacturing workers. Because the questions were ordinal (Likert scaling), the researchers used a purposive selection technique and used Spearman's Rank Order Correlation Coefficient for statistical analysis. The styles of inventory management, technology inventory, and supplier relationship inventory management are all evaluated in relation to increased productivity. It was shown that while supplier partnerships had a strong positive link with increased productivity, both technology management practices and learning had significant positive correlations. Consequently, it was determined that improved productivity in the understudied enterprises is influenced by inventory management practices. In light of the results, management was advised to employ a mix of all types in order to guarantee material availability and an efficient and successful production process.
