Corporate Venturing and Financial Sustainability of Selected Micro Enterprises in Nigeria

Okechukwu Ferdinand Cyril-Nwuche, PhD

Abstract

This study investigated the effect of corporate venturing on the financial sustainability of selected micro-enterprises in Nigeria. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study, with a sample size of 400 micro-enterprise operators selected using purposive sampling from a population of 41,469,947 micro-enterprises in Nigeria. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire, which was validated through expert review and pilot testing. Linear regression was used to test the hypothesis at 5% significance level. The findings revealed that corporate venturing has a positive and significant effect on the financial sustainability of micro-enterprises in Nigeria (β = 0.717, p = 0.000). In conclusion, engaging in corporate venturing activities is critical for improving the financial stability and growth of micro-enterprises in Nigeria. The study recommended that micro-enterprise owners in Nigeria should actively engage in corporate venturing activities such as partnerships, joint ventures, and innovation initiatives. By leveraging these strategies, they can access external resources, explore new markets, and introduce product diversification, which will directly contribute to enhancing the financial sustainability of their businesses.
