Digital Procurement Services on Business Sustainability Among Selected Firms in Ondo State
Abstract
This study examined the effect of digital procurement services on business sustainability among selected firms in Ondo State, Nigeria. The rapid growth of digital technologies has transformed procurement practices, making electronic procurement systems and transparency essential tools for improving efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing long-term organizational sustainability. The study specifically investigated the influence of electronic procurement systems and digital procurement transparency on business sustainability. A survey research design was adopted, and data were collected from 130 respondents comprising managers, procurement officers, and business owners in selected firms in Ondo State. A structured questionnaire was used as the research instrument, while descriptive and inferential statistics were employed for data analysis. Hypotheses were tested using Chi-square and Pearson Correlation analysis. Findings revealed that electronic procurement systems have a significant effect on business sustainability, as firms that adopt e-procurement experience improved efficiency, reduced procurement delays, enhanced supplier coordination, and lower operational costs. Furthermore, the study established a strong and significant positive relationship between digital procurement transparency and long-term organizational sustainability, indicating that transparency improves accountability, reduces corruption risks, and strengthens stakeholder trust. The study concludes that digital procurement services are key drivers of business sustainability, as they enhance economic efficiency, environmental responsibility, and social accountability. It further establishes that firms that adopt digital procurement technologies are better positioned to achieve long-term competitiveness and survival in a dynamic business environment. The study recommends full adoption of digital procurement systems, continuous capacity building for procurement personnel, and stronger policy support for digital transformation. Overall, digital procurement services are essential for improving organizational performance and ensuring sustainable business growth in Ondo State and similar emerging economies.
