Business Analytics Capability and Organizational Performance: Evidence from Emerging Markets

Sabrina Ashraf Mumu, Farzana Sharmin, Suriya Akhter, Sanjida Rahman, Saurav, Das. PhD

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between business analytics capability and organizational performance in the context of emerging markets, with a particular focus on Bangladesh and other South and Southeast Asian economies. Drawing on the resource-based view and dynamic capabilities framework, the study conceptualizes business analytics capability as comprising three core dimensions: data infrastructure, analytical talent, and data-driven decision-making culture. Using a structured survey instrument, primary data were collected from 287 managers and executives across diverse industries including banking, manufacturing, retail, and telecommunications. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling to examine both direct and mediated relationships. Findings reveal that business analytics capability exerts a significant positive effect on organizational performance across all four dimensions of the balanced scorecard: financial performance, customer satisfaction, internal business process efficiency, and organizational learning. The study further demonstrates that data-driven decision-making culture partially mediates the relationship between analytical infrastructure and performance outcomes. Moderating analysis indicates that firm size and digital maturity significantly amplify the analytics-performance relationship. The research contributes theoretical insights into how emerging market organizations can leverage analytics capabilities to achieve competitive advantage in resource-constrained environments. Practical implications are discussed for business leaders, policymakers, and researchers in the domain of management information systems and strategic management.
