Exploring the Influence of Millennial Leadership on Lecturers’ Job Productivity in Ogun State Tertiary Institutions
Abstract
This research explored how millennial leadership affects the job productivity of lecturers in tertiary institutions in Ogun State, Nigeria. The study was structured around four research questions and tested four related null hypotheses. A correlational research design was employed, with the study population consisting of 3,432 academic staff members from universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education within the state. Using Krejcie and Morgan's (1970) sample size determination table, a sample of 1,697 lecturers was selected through stratified and proportionate sampling techniques. Data collection was carried out using two structured instruments: the Millennial Leadership Questionnaire and the Lecturers’ Job Productivity Questionnaire , both of which were validated by experts and their reliability tested using Cronbach's Alpha. Descriptive statistics were used to address the research questions, while Pearson Product Moment Correlation was applied to test the hypotheses at a 0.05 significance level. The results showed that millennial leadership had a strong and statistically significant impact on lecturers' job productivity. In particular, millennial leadership style, adaptability to change, and collaboration were identified as key factors influencing increased productivity among lecturers. The study concluded that millennial leadership has a positive effect on academic performance in higher education institutions. It was recommended that institutions provide structured leadership development for millennial administrators, encourage adaptability and innovation, foster collaborative cultures, and align leadership practices with institutional goals.
