The Role of Digital Literacy in the Strategic Management of Personal Business Enterprises in this Era: Perspective of Ughelli Metropolis, Delta State, Nigeria

Abstract

This paper examines the critical intersection of digital literacy and strategic management within personal business enterprises in the contemporary digital economy. It argues that digital literacy has evolved from a supplementary skill to a fundamental strategic imperative that directly influences the competitive positioning, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainability of small and medium-scale businesses. The discussion begins by conceptualizing digital literacy beyond technical competence to encompass a multidimensional set of cognitive, technical, and socio-emotional skills necessary for effective business navigation in digital environments. The specific objective was to investigate the relationship between information and data literacy and strategic planning of small and medium scale enterprise in Ughelli Metropolis Delta State. The research design adopted was cross sectional research survey design, the population was 100 small and medium scale enterprise in Ughelli Metropolis, Delta State. The result of the study showed that there is a significant relationship between information and data literacy and strategic planning of small and medium scale enterprise in Ughelli Metropolis. The research concludes that strategic investment in digital literacy represents one of the most crucial determinants of success for personal business enterprises in the current era, with profound implications for entrepreneurship development, economic growth, and digital inclusion.
