Bosco, Itoro Ekpenyong and Jude, Evans Mbachu

Abstract

The study is to empirically examined the impact of financial technology on the financial performance of deposit money banks in Nigeria. The aim of the study was to examine the impact of point of sale , mobile transfers, Automated Teller Machine , and NIBSS on the financial performance of the deposit money banks in Nigeria. Using panel regression analysis based on dataset from five selected DMBs (First Bank, Union Bank, GTBank, Access Bank, and UBA) between 2014 to 2024, the study conducted descriptive statistics, unit root tests, fixed and random tests, Hausman test, and post-estimation tests: serial correlation and heteroskedasticity test. It was found that POS, NIBSS, and MOB do not significantly impact on the Net Profit Margin of the DMBs. However, ATM is found to have a positive and significant impact on the NPM. The study reinforced the growing influence of digital banking infrastructure, especially the ATM, and how they have impacted on the performance of DMBs. The study recommended that banks should expand their investments in their ATM infrastructures as this have been shown to improve their NPM.
