Cross-Professional Integration of Teaching Career and Enhancement of School Business Management in Port Harcourt Metropolis, Rivers State

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between cross-professional integration of teaching career and enhancement of school business management in Port Harcourt Metropolis, Rivers State. The study was guided by two research questions and two corresponding null hypotheses. A correlational research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised 3,842 teachers in public senior secondary schools within Port Harcourt Metropolis, Rivers State. There was no sampling as the entire population was used for the study through a census approach. Data were collected using two structured questionnaires titled: “Cross-professional Integration of Teaching Career Questionnaire ” and “Enhancement of School Business Management Questionnaire ” designed on a four-point Likert scale of Strongly Agree (SA), Agree (A), Disagree (D), and Strongly Disagree (SD). The instruments were validated by experts in Educational Management and Measurement and Evaluation in the Faculty of Education, Rivers State University, Port Harcourt. The reliability of the instruments was established using Cronbach’s Alpha method, which yielded an overall reliability coefficient of 0.81, indicating high internal consistency and reliability of the instruments. Data collected were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient to determine the relationship between the variables. The findings revealed that interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge sharing had significant positive relationships with enhancement of school business management in Port Harcourt Metropolis, Rivers State. Based on the findings, the study concluded that cross- professional integration of teaching career contributes significantly to enhancement of school business management through improved communication, collaboration, administrative coordination, and organizational effectiveness. The study therefore recommended, among others, that school administrators should encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and professional knowledge sharing among teachers and other educational stakeholders through regular professional interaction programmes, workshops, and collaborative administrative practices in order to improve school business management in public senior secondary schools.
