Students’ Perception of Library Facilities and Information Services in Federal Polytechnic, Bali
Abstract
This study examines students’ perception of library facilities and information services in higher institutions, with a case study of Federal Polytechnic Bali. Academic libraries are essential support systems that provide access to information resources needed for teaching, learning, and research. The study specifically investigates students’ perception of library facilities, the quality of information services, factors influencing satisfaction, and the level of utilization of library resources. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study, and data were collected using a structured questionnaire administered to a sample of 340 students selected from the institution. The findings revealed that students have a generally moderate to positive perception of library facilities and information services. Students acknowledged the availability of basic facilities such as seating spaces and library staff support. However, they expressed dissatisfaction with inadequate ICT facilities, poor internet connectivity, and limited access to updated books and digital resources. The study further revealed that students’ perception is significantly influenced by the quality of infrastructure, availability of current materials, and efficiency of information services. The study concludes that students’ perception of library facilities and information services directly affects their level of utilization and academic engagement. It recommends improved ICT infrastructure, regular updating of library materials, and continuous user education programmes to enhance students’ satisfaction and effective use of library services in higher institutions. Strengthening these areas will improve academic performance and promote effective learning among students.
