Marketing Strategies and Market Reach Effectiveness of Family Businesses in Nigeria: (A Qualitative Analysis)

Nwabuatu, Emmanuel Nnajiubah. Ph.D

Abstract

This paper examines the marketing approaches that family-run enterprises in Nigeria are using and assesses the power of their strategies in connecting with target audiences. Using a qualitative approach incorporating multiple cases and semi-structured interviews with a total of 25 family business owners in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt, the study finds and explains the patterns of marketing strategies and their effects on market penetration. Results illustrate the intricate relationship between traditional and digital marketing approaches, and successful companies adopted a mixed strategy. Despite the importance of word-of-mouth and culturizing, digitalization further with social media integration and e-commerce integration has a promising impact on market penetration. The research highlights some of the key issues faced, for example, lack of marketing budgets, technology acquisition barriers, and resistance to innovative marketing strategies. Considerations also point to the necessity of balanced marketing approaches that retain cultural influence and capitalize on technological development and propose a model for sustainable development in Nigeria family business ecosystem.
