Lawal, E., Igbayilola, E.O., Obiekwe, Onyebuchi, .

Abstract

The paper examines the impact of entrepreneurial factors on organizational performance of SMEs in Ibadan, Oyo State. The paper propounded that no significant relationship exists between entrepreneurial factors (age, experience, educational qualification, level of initial capital investment and government support) with organizational performance of SMEs in Ibadan, Nigeria. The study employed multiple regression to determine the impact of the independent variables components (Age, experience, educational level, and level of initial capital investment) on business performance. The target populations consist of all business owners of small and medium-scale enterprises in Ibadan, Oyo State. An accessible population of 115 respondents were selected from all small and medium-scale enterprises operating in Ibadan to serve as the population for the study. A multiple regression was adopted for the study. The result shows that the joint effect of entrepreneurial factors improves business performance significantly; F = 82.620; R = .656, R2 = .430, Adj. R2 = .426; P <. 0. The study concluded that all independent variables, (Age, experience, educational level, and level of initial capital investment), jointly and independently predict business performance. The study recommends that entrepreneurs need awareness regarding how best to strategically integrate age, the working experience, level of education and initial capital investment to improve performance while new entrants should take cognizance of entrepreneurial factors and optimize them for better performance.
