Managing Life After Retirement: Issues for Discourse Among the Academic Staff and Intellectuals in the Nigerian Tertiary Education System

Abstract

The discourse reviews the state of Nigerian intellectual in the tertiary education system as regard to retainment after reaching the mandatory age of 60 or 35 years of active service. Issues raised by the Nigerian Pension Scheme and Income Policy Guideline provides a basis for the discoursed. The focus of Nigerian Intellectual in developing minds through mentorship and community service including the environment within which such intellectual develop his career and development. Issues relating to possible areas of opportunities that require attention were discussed: similarly, other areas of interest that are likely to pre-occupy his mind were pointed out moreover personal development and management for old age and post- retirement period were also highlighted as a suggestion to the academicians in the Nigerian tertiary education system. A proper guide has been articulated on the prevalent opportunities that are inherent within the environment were such a person resides after retirement. Conclusively retirement is considered a transition to another life full of opportunities and untapped benefit.
