Abstract

The study investigated the challenges in the implementation of entrepreneurship education in Enugu State University of Science and Technology . Three research questions and three null hypotheses guided the study. The descriptive survey design was used for the study. The area of study is Enugu State. The population of the study comprised of 21 male and 12 female Entrepreneurship Lecturers of Enugu State University of Science and Technology and the census sampling technique was used since the population was relatively small, hence the total population formed the sample of the study. The instrument for data collection is a self-constructed questionnaire titled “Challenges in the Implementation of Entrepreneurship Education in Enugu State University of Science and Technology Questionnaire” (CIEEESUTQ). The instruments for data collection were subjected to both face and content validation by three experts. The researcher calculated the reliability of the instrument using Cronbach’s Alpha (α) which was obtained as 0.85. The data generated from the study was analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions while t-test was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings have implications for the entrepreneurship instructors, students, management of universities and government. The study concluded that incompetent entrepreneurial facilitators, and lack of innovative teaching methods, negative societal attitude towards entrepreneurship education, unclear policies to follow in achieving the objectives of entrepreneurship education, lack of fund, among others are some of the challenges that affect the effective implementation of entrepreneurship education. In conclusion entrepreneurship education should be giving adequate attention both by the student, lecturers, management and government for it purpose to be achieve not only in ESUT but all institutions at large The study recommended among others that, conferences and in-service training should be regularly organized for entrepreneurship educators, undergraduate students should go for internship with a successful entrepreneur for at least a period of three months and government should provide adequate funding for smooth running of entrepreneurship education in schools.
