Nigeria's Innovative Programs and Rural Agricultural Development

Abstract

This examination looks at Nigeria's several creative programs for agricultural development and the reasons for their failure. Despite the considerable efforts made by successive governments, such as in Nigeria, poverty and hunger continue to be the principal issues facing the majority of Sub-Saharan African nations in the past ten years. According to estimations from specialists in 2024 the population of impoverished individuals in sub-Saharan Africa who largely live in rural areas has increased to around 44 million dues to the region's unrelentingly growing food costs. Additionally, it has been shown that innovation adoption is the only viable solution to the issues of poverty and malnutrition because higher agricultural productivity will increase food availability, particularly in rural areas in which over 80% of Africa's population lives and where the majority of these foods are produced by smallholder rural farmers. The prediction that there will be 9 billion people on the planet by the year 2050 is reason for concern for all people, especially those in less developed sub-Saharan African nations like Nigeria, where the government has failed to address issues of poverty and malnourishment in rural areas despite implementing various creative and innovative development programs. The National Special Programme on Food Safety, the Root and Tuber Expansion Programme, the Directorate for Food Transportation and Rural Infrastructure, the Better Life Programme, the River Basin, Operation Feed the Nation and The Green Revolution Programme are a few of these innovative and developmental programs.
