The Future of Employee Engagement: Trends and Implications for Human Resource Leaders

Daniel Lifsa, Professor Edwinah Amah

Abstract

Employee engagement is one of the most important aspects of organizational success, which directly affects productivity, employee retention, and overall performance of an organization. With the changes in the work places brought about by technological changes, changing workforce composition, and new global trends, the future of the employee engagement needs to be re-thought strategically. The paper covers the aspects of major trends and implications to Human Resource (HR) leaders regarding the emergence of hybrid and remote workers, employee well-being, diversity and inclusion, as well as the adoption of high-tech technologies. It speaks to the increased importance of data-driven decision-making, changes in generations, and work driven by a purpose, as well as how challenging and ethical dilemmas that HR leaders have to navigate to encourage engagement are. Strategic recommendations on HR professionals are concluded in the paper and consist of the necessity of personalization, well- being programs, and cultural competence. The research directions are outlined in the future, and the necessity to explore the issue of artificial intelligence further, participation in the gig economy, and sustainable working practices more is mentioned.
