Abstract

This paper examined the achievement of sustainable economic development through the use of digital instructional technologies in the Nigerian university educational system. The research was informed by four objectives, and their respective research questions and hypotheses. The research design was descriptive, and the scope was limited to the selected universities in Nigeria that had implemented digital instructional technologies in their educational systems. The sample size was 7,000 participants, which consisted of students, faculty members, and administrative staff of these universities. Stratified random sampling was used to select 350 participants. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire that assessed the perceptions and experiences of the participants on digital instructional technologies and their role in sustainable economic development. The acceptable level of Cronbach alpha was established at 0.70 and above, which implies a high level of internal consistency in the instrument. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, such as mean and standard deviation. According to the results, the following recommendations were offered: The Nigerian government and university administrations were advised to invest in strong digital infrastructure, such as high-speed internet connectivity and modern learning management systems, to be able to use digital technologies effectively. Also, it was suggested to implement professional development programs that would provide educators with the skills required to incorporate digital technologies into the teaching process. Lastly, it was proposed that universities should update their curricula to incorporate digital literacy and technology-based courses that are in line with the industry needs so that graduates are equipped with the skills needed in the job market.
