Abstract

This study examined teachers’ realistic goal setting and teachers’ time allocation as Correlate of Effective Teaching in Senior Secondary Schools in Rivers State. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. The research adopted correlational research design. The population comprised 6174 teachers in 311 Schools. Sample size of 390 respondents were drawn using simple random sampling technique. The instruments used were Teachers’ Realistic Goal Setting, Teachers’ Time Allocation and Effective Teaching Cronbach alpha was used for internal consistency of the instruments, with reliability indexes of 0.83, 0.88 and 0.83 respectively. Pearson product moment correlation (r) statistics, and z-ratio were used. The findings revealed that there were high and positive relationships between teachers’ realistic goal setting, teachers’ time allocation and effective teaching and there was a significant relationship between Teachers’ Realistic Goal Setting, Teachers’ Time Allocation and Effective Teaching. Based on the findings, it was concluded that teachers’ realistic goal setting and teachers’ time allocation were the major component of the study and have high positive relationship with effective teaching. It was recommended that teachers should set realistic goals and also allocate appropriate time to their tasks in public senior secondary schools in Rivers State.
