Corporate Sponsorship and Philanthropy as Indices for Grassroot Sport Development in Obio/Akpor L.G.A. Rivers State

Abstract

The study was embarked upon to examine corporate sponsorship and philanthropy as indices for Grassroot sport development in Obio/Akpor L.G.A of Rivers State. Two (2) research questions were formulated. The descriptive survey research design was used for the study. A self-structured questionnaire was administered to two hundred (200) stakeholders comprising of athletes, organizing secretaries, sports journalists and directors. The simple random sampling technique was used while the data collected were collated and analysed, using the descriptive statistics of percentage and mean to describe the findings of the study. It was recommended among others that local government authorities should explore corporate sponsorship and Philanthropy to enhance Grassroot sport development in Obio/Akpor L.G.A of Rivers State.
