Business Process Re-Engineering on Productivity of SME’s in Akwa Ibom State

Abstract

The study investigated business process re-engineering on productivity of SMEs in Akwa Ibom State. The specific objectives are to examine the effect of process innovation and change on effectiveness of Selected SMEs in Akwa Ibom State. The study utilized primary and secondary data to gather information from the respondents. The target population was one hundred and fifty-four (154) respondents from the selected SMEs in Akwa Ibom State. Thus, the sample size of the study was 111 respondents which were distributed 6 questionnaires were not returned but one hundred and five (105) questionnaires were filled and returned, with 94.5% which formed basis for the study. A stratified sampling method was adopted. Regression model was used to test the hypothesis of the study. The findings of the study revealed that process innovation has a significant effect on effectiveness of Selected SMEs in Akwa Ibom State. The study concluded that efficiency and performance of the SMEs have been increased due to implementation of the business process re- engineering. The study recommended that SMEs should board fully automates its operations besides replacing obsolete technology equipment with modern ones, this will enable them gain increased control over their operations.
