Abstract

The study investigated the relationship between employee creativity and performance of mobile telecommunication firms in Rivers State. It involved the adoption of cross-sectional survey research design. Mobile telecommunication firms in the Nigerian telecommunication sector constituted the study population. However, a predefined target population of the 4 most popular mobile telecommunication firms registered with the Nigerian Communication Commission that provide both voice call and data service in Rivers State were selected. The sampling size consisted of the entire target population. Hence, the study adopted the purposive method of sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was adopted for the collection of primary data. Descriptive analytical tools were used to analyze demographical data while Spearman Rank Order Correlation was employed for the bivariate analysis. Findings of the study revealed that there is a significant and positive relationship between employee creativity dimensions (cognitive ability, creative personality, and knowledge) and performance with 0.000 probability value across board and correlation values of 0.755, 0.777, and 0.575 respectively. The recommendations of the study are that in order to boost creative outcomes necessary for profitability, mobile telecommunication firms in Rivers State should motivate their employees to intentionally embrace initiatives that leads to increase in their cognitive abilities; encourage employees that believe in their sense of judgement, values, work role and behaviours and support collaboration among employees.
