Cloud-Based Education and the Globalisation of Learning: Opportunities and Challenges in the Digital Era

Mariam Adenike LASISI, Mudasiru Olalere Yusuf

Abstract

This paper explores the transformative role of cloud-based education in advancing global access to learning. It examined how cloud technologies facilitate scalable, collaborative and inclusive educational models while also identifying the challenges associated with infrastructure, data security and digital literacy. However, disparities in internet access, cybersecurity risks, and resistance to technological changes remain major barriers to widespread adoption. The paper provides insights for policymakers, educators and ICT providers on how to implement cloud-based solutions effectively. Recommendations include investment in digital infrastructure, training programmes for educators, and the establishment of international data privacy standards to build trust and resilience. This research contributes to the limited literature on the intersection of cloud computing, globalisation, and internationalisation of education. It offers a nuanced understanding of how cloud-based platforms can support the globalisation of learning while addressing real-world challenges in implementation and equity.
