Abstract

This research was carried out to investigate entrepreneurial skills acquisition and job creation potentials among secondary school students in Cross River State. To achieve the purpose of this study, two research questions were raised, two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. A literature review was done according to the variables of the study. A correlational research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprises all the (11,186) SS3 students in the (301) public secondary schools in Cross River State. A sample of 386 secondary school students three (SS3) was selected for the study. The selection was done through a simple random sampling technique and a stratified random sampling technique. The main instrument used was a research questionnaire titled: “Entrepreneurial Skills Acquisition and Job Creation Potentials among Secondary Schools Students Questionnaire" (ESAJCPSSSQ), which was used to generate data for the independent and dependent variables. The instrument was both face and content validated by the researcher’s experts in the Educational Measurement Department, University of Calabar, and the Measurement and Evaluation Unit in the Department of Educational Psychology, University of Calabar. Simple linear regression analysis analysis was adopted to test the hypotheses under the study to ascertain whether to reject or retain them. All hypotheses were subjected to testing at the .05 level of significance. The results of the hypotheses revealed that: beads and hat-making skill acquisition, and house decoration skill acquisition significantly relates job creation potentials among secondary school students in Cross River State, Nigeria.The study concluded that the entrepreneurial skills acquisition relate to job creation potentials among secondary school students in Cross River State.The study recommended among others that,The school management should encourage students to acquire house decoration skills, mostly in interior design, which will enable the students to create jobs for themselves.
