The Effect of Motivation on Employees’ Productivity in an Organization

Olowu Irikefe Peter, Batse Emmanuel Taji

Abstract

This study examines the effect of motivation on employees’ productivity in an organization, with a focus on employee incentives and job security. The main objective is to determine how motivational factors influence employees’ performance and overall productivity, using Thomas Wyatt Nigeria Plc, Head Office Lagos, as a case study. The study adopts a descriptive survey research design, employing structured questionnaires administered to a representative sample of employees. Data were analyzed using statistical techniques, including correlation analysis, to assess the relationships between the independent variables (employee incentives and job security) and dependent variables (employee performance and productivity). The findings reveal that employee incentives have a significant positive effect on performance, while respect for human dignity enhances employees’ work attitude and commitment, thereby improving productivity. Based on these results, the study recommends that organizations implement effective incentive programs and foster a respectful work environment to enhance motivation and performance. The study contributes to the understanding of motivational strategies in organizational settings, particularly within the Nigerian context, and provides practical insights for managers aiming to increase employee productivity.
