Influence of Over-Schooling on Early Childhood Care Development and Education in Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau State, Nigeria
Abstract
This study investigated the influence of Over-Schooling on Early Childhood Care Development and Education in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State Nigeria. The study population comprised 129 pre-primary school teachers and 314 parents of the pre-primary pupils in Early Childhood Care and Education in the 18 private pre-primary schools in Jos South LGA within Jos metropolis of Plateau State, Nigeria. The sample is 40% of the study population, consisting of 52 teachers and 126 parents (n = 178) drawn through a random sampling technique from seven private primary schools in Jos South LGA Plateau State Nigeria. This study adopted a survey research design, specifically a cross-sectional survey research design. Two sets of questionnaires were used to collect data: Over-schooling in Early Childhood Questionnaire for Teachers and Over-schooling in Early Childhood Questionnaire for Parents . The mean and standard deviation were used for answering all the research questions. This study found that the influence of over-schooling on pupils includes difficulty concentrating in class, sleeping in class during extra lessons, difficulty interacting with family members, and complaints of headaches, as well as a phobia of going to school. Others are early sleeping, unable to complete homework; parents end up doing the homework, as well as doing homework outside the designed curriculum content.
