Physical Resources Management and Students’ Academic Achievements in Public Secondary Schools in Bauchi State, Nigeria

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between physical resources Management and students’ Academic Achievement in Senior Secondary Schools in Bauchi State, Nigeria. The study made use of correlational and survey research design. The population of the study was 32,870 consisting of 85 government senior Secondary Schools, 85 principals, 9,235 teachers and 23,465 students in Bauchi State, the sample of the study was 7137 respondents: comprising 46 principals, 463 teachers and 6,689 students drawn through simple random sampling and probability proportionate to size sampling techniques. Three instruments were used for data collection. They concluded a structured questionnaire titled Physical Resources Management Questionnaire Document for Students’ Results and provision of Physical Resources Rating Scale content validity of the instrument was ensured using three experts from the University of Jos. The reliability of the instruments was established using the test-retest method of reliability Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics for research questions 1-7 while inferential statistics of chi-square of independence was used to test the hypothesis formulated at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the findings showed that school buildings and furniture were mostly provided in schools while libraries computers, toilet facilities, Laboratory facilities and sporting facilities were not provided. Classrooms, instructional materials school furniture were highly utilized while laboratory facilities, lab facilities were not utilized. That the available school buildings, instructional materials, and library facilities were highly maintained in senior secondary schools in Bauchi State. But toilet facilities, furniture, functioning sporting facilities and water resources were not maintained.
