Students’ Entrepreneurship Skills and Entrepreneurial intention in Rwanda A Case of Selected Private Universities in Rwanda

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the entrepreneurship skills and entrepreneurial intentions of students in Rwanda, focusing on selected private universities. The inspiration for this study stems from graduation speeches urging graduates to utilize their acquired knowledge and skills to address the country's high unemployment rate by becoming entrepreneurs. Reports of National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda shows an increase of unemployment. The researcher seeks to determine whether students graduating from private universities in Rwanda have an inclination towards entrepreneurship. The study examined various indicators, including personal characteristics, interpersonal skills, critical and creative thinking abilities, practical skills and knowledge, with entrepreneurial intention as the dependent variable. The researcher's objective was to assess the influence of students' entrepreneurship skills on entrepreneurial intention. It employed a descriptive survey research design. The respondents were students enrolled in bachelor's degree programs in business schools of Adventist University of Central Africa , University of Technology and Arts of Byumba and East African University Rwanda . Data was gathered through questionnaires. The study population consists of 192 graduating student from the business/management schools of the aforementioned institutions. Utilizing universal sampling techniques, questionnaires was distributed to 192 students from the business/management schools of these institutions. Data analysis involved computing mean, standard deviation, and conducting multiple linear regression to test hypotheses. The study was ended by a conclusion with recommendations.
