Abstract

This study examined the influence of Inculturation theology on Christian faith and practice in Nigeria. The primary aim was to evaluate how Inculturation theology affects the expression and experience of Christianity within the Nigerian context. The study population consisted of 7,876,321 individuals, from which a random sample of 807 respondents was selected to represent the broader population. A descriptive survey research design was employed, and data were gathered through a structured questionnaire. The findings indicated that Inculturation theology enhances Christian faith and practice in Nigeria by incorporating indigenous cultural elements, thereby promoting engagement, moral behaviour, communal cohesion, and reconciliation with traditional beliefs. The study concluded that Inculturation theology plays a significant role in shaping Christian faith and practice in Nigeria, making worship and religious instruction more culturally relevant and meaningful to local believers. Based on these findings, it is recommended that church leaders and theologians actively integrate indigenous languages, music, dance, and cultural rituals into worship and religious education to strengthen engagement, spiritual identity, and the contextual relevance of Christian teachings. Additionally, seminaries and Christian training institutions should offer programmes on Inculturation theology that focus on ethical formation, communal cohesion, and the reconciliation of traditional cultural practices with Christian doctrines, in order to prepare clergy and lay leaders for culturally sensitive ministry.
