Impact of Green Business Education Challenges on Sustainable Economic Development in Nigeria

Abstract

The study examines the impact of green business education challenges on sustainable economic development in Nigeria. Sustainable economic development, which balances economic growth with environmental protection and social equity, has become increasingly critical in the context of environmental degradation, climate change, and resource depletion. Green business education equips individuals with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to integrate sustainability principles into business practices, foster innovation, and promote ethical and socially responsible decision-making. In Nigeria, where economic development has historically relied on resource-intensive sectors, green business education can facilitate economic diversification, job creation, and environmentally responsible entrepreneurship. This study highlights the roles of green business education in promoting sustainable business practices, resource efficiency, innovation, and alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals . However, the development of green business education in Nigeria faces significant challenges, including inadequate funding, outdated curricula, limited institutional support, insufficient skilled Business educators, poor infrastructure, weak policy frameworks, and limited industry- academia collaboration. The findings suggest that addressing these challenges requires coordinated efforts by government, educational institutions, and industry stakeholders to strengthen curricula, enhance human capital, and build institutional capacity. Overall, green business education emerges as a vital tool for achieving sustainable economic development and fostering a resilient, environmentally conscious Nigerian economy.
