Essien, Sebastian Uwem, PhD, Korubo-FI, Alexandra Idaere, PhD

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between employee justice perception and employee retention in the Power Utility Industry in Port Harcourt. The study utilised a cross-sectional correlational research survey design. The primary source of data was through a structured questionnaire. The study was guided by two research questions and two research hypotheses. The population for this study was two hundred and sixty employees randomly selected from the population of the study using the Krejcie and Morgan Table. The test for the reliability of data collected was done using Cronbach’s Alpha of .966. To measure the validity of the research instrument, face validity was utilized while a Kaiser-Meyer-Oklin test with a result of .932 was obtained to confirm that there are variables in the study. The hypotheses were tested using the Pearson Correlation Coefficient and Regression Statistics. The findings revealed a significant positive relationship between Employee Justice Perception and Employee Retention in the Power Utility Industry in Port Harcourt. The study concluded that ensuring fair work processes and procedures for employees would greatly enhance organisational citizenship behaviors which would in turn lead to satisfactory career progress and long tenure, and subsequently employee retention. The study recommended that organisations should put in place fair work processes, procedures and policies to increase the likelihood that employees will stay with their current organisation.
