Reversed Logistics Practices and Profitability of Bottled Water Companies in Rivers State

Nwiepe, Naata Michael, PhD, Agwu Akin, James Grace Obiaraozi

Abstract

This study examined the influence of reverse logistics practices on the profitability of bottled water companies in Rivers State, with specific focus on the dimensions of recycling and reuse. The study adopted a descriptive cross-sectional survey design and collected primary data from 120 managerial and senior operational staff across registered bottled water companies using structured questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple regression analysis to test the formulated hypotheses. The results revealed that both recycling and reuse have positive and significant effects on the profitability of bottled water companies. Recycling was found to explain 40.8 percent of the variation in profitability, while reuse accounted for 35.6 percent. The study concludes that reverse logistics practices, particularly recycling and reuse, serve as strategic tools that enhance operational efficiency and financial performance. The study recommends that bottled water companies in Rivers State strengthen their recycling and reuse initiatives to reduce costs, improve profit margins, and promote sustainable business operations.
