Green Human Resource Management and Organizational Agility of Oil Servicing Firms in South-South, Nigeria

Samuel, Ogonda Victor Ph.D

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between Green Human Resource Management and Organizational Agility among oil servicing firms in South-South Nigeria. Drawing on data from 40 functional oil servicing firms, six management-level employees were selected from each firm, resulting in a total sample of 240 respondents. The study investigates the extent to which green HR practices—namely green recruitment, green training, and green reward systems—enhance organizational flexibility, adaptability, and responsiveness within an increasingly dynamic and environmentally sensitive business environment. Green Human Resource Management was conceptualized as the predictor variable, Organizational Agility as the criterion variable, and climate perception—captured through organizational and co-worker perceptions—as the moderating variable. A quantitative research design was adopted, and data were collected using a structured questionnaire measured on a five-point Likert scale ranging from “very low extent” to “very high extent.” The data were analyzed using Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient with the aid of SPSS version 23.0. The findings reveal a statistically significant and positive relationship between GHRM practices and organizational agility, indicating that firms that actively integrate environmentally sustainable HR strategies exhibit higher levels of adaptability and responsiveness to environmental and market changes. The study concludes that environmentally conscious human resource practices play a critical role in fostering organizational agility and enhancing competitive advantage in volatile industries such as oil servicing. Based on the findings, the study recommends that firms institutionalize sustainability within HR policies by redefining job roles to incorporate environmental responsibilities, promoting continuous green learning through regular sustainability-focused training programs, and integrating sustainability metrics into performance appraisal and rew
