Organization Culture and Business Education Lecturers’ Job Performance in Tertiary Institutions in Rivers State

Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between organization culture and business education lecturers’ job performance in tertiary institutions in Rivers State. Two specific objectives, and corresponding research questions and hypotheses guided the study. Correlation research design was adopted for the study. Population and sample of the study was made up of 93 business education academic staff comprising of 7 administrators and 86 lecturers from in Rivers State University, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, University of Port-Harcourt and Federal College of Education (Tech.), Omoku during the 2023/2024 academic year. Two structured questionnaires were used for the study. The instruments were validated by three experts. One of the experts was of Educational Measurement and Evaluation and the two other experts were of Business education, all from Faculty of Education, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rivers State. Cronbach Alpha reliability statistics computed using Statistical Package for Social Science version 23.0 was used to test the reliability of the instrument. The two clusters of the instrument gave reliability indexes of approximately 0.90 respectively, hence average index is 0.90. Out of the 93 copies of questionnaires distributed only 72 were filled and returned. The total returned questionnaire was made up approximately 77% of the total distributed. Data collected were analysed using Spearman Correlation to answer the research questions and to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The results revealed that that reward system and support system culture have positive but not significant relationship with business education lecturers job performance in tertiary institutions in Rivers State.
