Workplace Spirituality and Employees Work Attitudes in the Telecommunication Sector in Rivers State
Abstract
This paper examines the link between workplace spirituality and employee work attitudes in the telecommunication sector of Rivers State. Spirituality in this context means management activities and policies that promote employee personal development, sense of meaningful work and learning work environment. Two objectives were stated and Person Environment Fit Theory was used to explain the relationship between workplace spirituality (meaningful work and sense of community) and employee work attitude (employee job satisfaction). The qualitative research design was adopted in this study. Findings revealed that meaningful work significantly relates to employee job satisfaction and sense of community also positively relate to employee job satisfaction. It was concluded that workplace spirituality affects employee work attitudes telecommunication sector in Rivers State. It was recommended that management should provide appropriate job description and rewards, as these will encourage employee to display positive work attitudes and increase employee job satisfaction and management should increase employee sense of community through establishing employee’s oneness as this will improve employee job satisfaction.
