Effect of Teachers’ Quality on Student’s Academic Performance
Abstract
This study examined the effect of teachers’ quality on student’s academic performance. The study employed descriptive survey as its research design. The targeted sample was fifty (50) teachers and school administrators. The instrument used for gathering of data was a self-structured questionnaire. To analyse data gathered mean and standard deviation were used. From the finding it was revealed that students having teachers with higher qualification achieve high academic performance. The study showed that teachers’ level of experience significantly affects the academic performance of student in mathematics. The study revealed that teachers’ with good knowledge of their subject matter, competency on the subject matter have impact on the performance of students. It was also revealed that revealed that proper classroom management and motivation, lesson clarity and using varieties of instuctional materials, good method of teaching, the use teaching method that suit learners’ needs promotes or enhance student performance in mathematics and students’ interest and understanding can be lost if proper method of teaching is not adopted. Based on the findings the following recommendations were made government should employed qualified mathematics teachers in primary schools in order to enhance students’ good performance in mathematics, teachers of mathematics should have good mastering of their subject matter in order to ensure better performance in mathematics, teachers of mathematics should improve their teaching method regularly so as to effectively carry their students along in the teaching and learning process, parents of students should make available an extra moral mathematics lesson teacher for their wards in order to enhance good performance in mathematics, teachers should do all their best to have or obtain the highest certificate or qualification in order to be relevant in their field.
