Employee Resourcing and Performance of Academic Staff of Public Universities in South-East, Nigeria

Abstract

This study examines employee resourcing and performance of academic staff of public universities in South-East, Nigeria. The study aims to investigate the relationship between human resource planning and operational performance; employee recruitment and task performance and employee retention and proactive performance of academic staff of public universities in South-East, Nigeria. Relevant literature were reviewed under conceptual, theoretical and empirical review. The study was anchored on universalistic theory of management. Survey research design was adopted and the study was carried out in South-East, Nigeria. The survey instrument used in this study was structured questionnaire with 5 Likert scale response. The population of this study was made up of all the academic staff from ten public universities in South East, Nigeria South East, Nigeria, which comprising of 16838. The simple size consist 384 academic staff from all the ten public universities in South East, Nigeria using statistical formula devised by Cochran. The instruments were subjected to face and content validity and expert judgment was adopted. The reliability of the questionnaire was established through the test-retest and Cronbachi’s Alpha. Simple percentage analysis was used in analyzing research question. Hypotheses for the study were tested using linear regression analysis. The result from the findings revealed that human resource planning has a significant positive relationship with operational performance; employee recruitment has no significant correlation with task performance and employee retention has a significant positive relationship with proactive performance of academic staff of public universities in South-East, Nigeria.
