Utilization of Internet-Based Social Media as a Tool for Enhancing Small-Scale Business Productivity in Delta State

Abstract

Social media has created a medium through which small businesses reach a wider audience, engage with customers and build brand awareness without breaking the bank. It allows entrepreneurs to promote their products, share updates, and connect with potential clients globally through the use of Hashtags like Small Business Support and Digital Marketing have become vital tools for visibility. Information and communication technology has numerous benefits for society. Social media, being the product of information technology, has become an essential tool for small- scale businesses. This paper assessed the utilization of internet-based social media as a tool for enhancing the productivity of small-scale businesses. Several concepts, including small-scale business, its importance and characteristics, productivity, social media, and various types of social media, was explored, types of social media such as social networks, media-sharing and bookmarking sites, microblogging, blog comments, forums, and social news sites. The benefits and challenges of utilizing internet-based social media by small-scale businesses were extensively discussed in this paper. The paper concluded that social media has a positive impact on business growth and productivity. It was therefore suggested that small-scale businesses should increase their efforts in harnessing the advantages of social media, thereby maximizing all its attributes or features necessary to increase their sales and productivity through an expanded customer base and increased turnover.
