Internet of Smart Environment (IOSE) and Pollution Monitoring in Nigeria

Welson Doubara Alazigha, Amiesimaka Tamunokuro

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between Internet of Smart Environment and Pollution monitoring in Nigeria. Specifically, it explored the relationships between environmental monitoring and data analytics, environmental monitoring and pollution control measures, energy efficiency and data analytics, and energy efficiency and pollution control measures. A cross-sectional survey research design was employed, with data collected from 75 respondents across various environmental and regulatory bodies. Using Spearman's rank-order correlation coefficient, the study analyzed the relationships between the variables. The findings revealed significant positive relationships between environmental monitoring and data analytics (rho = 0.521, p = 0.000), environmental monitoring and pollution control measures (rho = 0.558, p = 0.000), energy efficiency and data analytics (rho = 0.610, p = 0.000), and energy efficiency and pollution control measures (rho = 0.660, p = 0.000). These results suggest that the integration of advanced data analytics and energy- efficient strategies significantly enhances pollution monitoring, control measures, and overall environmental management in Nigeria. The study recommends increased investment in data analytics and energy-efficient technologies to improve pollution control and sustainability. Key words: Internet of Smart Environment, Environmental Monitoring, Energy Efficiency, Pollution Monitoring, Data Analytics and Pollution Control Measures.
